Empire Interactive are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of International Cricket Captain 2000, for PC CD-ROM. Following up the phenomenal success of the first two games, this third title in the acclaimed International Cricket Captain series comes packed with a host of new features inspired by fans of the game. These innovative new gameplay features, together with fully updated team and player data, ensure that this latest addition to the cricket management genre offers unrivalled realism and sets new standards of excellence.

Since the inaugural International Cricket Captain game flew in to the top 10 of the PC CD-ROM charts back in 1998, the series has achieved sales in excess of 150,000. Not only does this make them the best-selling cricket games on the PC, it also confirms International Cricket Captain’s position as one of the strongest and most respected sporting brands on all formats. With the start of the new cricketing season looming, the timely release of the improved 2000 edition promises to further strengthen this position.

International Cricket Captain 2000 once again enables players to take control of their favourite county team. Taking charge of the day-to-day running of their club - including training, transfers and match tactics - players must strive to win the coveted County Championship. All the other major cricketing competitions, including the National League and The Nat West Trophy, are also featured in the game.

Having worked closely with fans of the previous two games, producer Brian Walker believes that International Cricket Captain 2000 is the best version yet. 'The first two games generated a huge amount of interest amongst cricket lovers all over the world. We’ve listened keenly to what these fans have had to say and looked to introduce their ideas in to the game.’ As a result, players can now enjoy enhanced bowler options, improved two-player hot-seat games and historical scenarios based upon classic Test encounters of yesteryear.

Perhaps the most significant of the new features that the team have added to the 2000 version is an on-line game which enables players to take on opponents from all over the globe. Players can build up a team in the solo game and then use it to compete in an on-line ladder. Such a feature is certain to prove popular with both new and old International Cricket Captain players.

Whilst much of International Cricket Captain 2000 is new, some things are best left unchanged. With this in mind, Empire are pleased to announce Wisden’s continued support and endorsement for the game. As the most highly respected authority on cricket, Wisden’s assistance in collating team and player data guarantees that International Cricket Captain 2000 will be the most realistic, authoritative and detailed cricket management game ever.

With immaculate presentation, strong marketing support, Wisden’s endorsement and a host of new features that will attract both new and old fans, International Cricket Captain 2000 looks set to remain the PC’s premier cricket management game. As sublime as a David Gower pull shot, it’s the game no cricket fan can afford to miss.

In addition, Empire's association with Cornhill will continue, with the Insurance giant hosting of the International Cricket Captain Worldwide Hall of Fame (www.cornhill.co.uk), which attracts over 10 million visitors per week.

Key Features:

Updated Team and Player data: This year’s close season has seen a record number of transfers, with top Aussie stars like Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath signing up for what promises to be the most fiercely contested season for some time. International Cricket Captain 2000 will field up-to-date team rosters with accurate player histories.

Online Leagues: In response to player requests, a network option will now allow them to match up against each other across the Internet in an online league. Players can build a team from scratch, save it and then see how their team fares against those of other gamers. There will also be a chat facility to enable players to discuss tactics and arrange matches.

Historical Scenarios: Over the years there have been many classic Test match encounters. International Cricket Captain 2000 allows players to relive some of these great games through a collection of historical scenarios.

New Graphics: In addition to new pictures for every ground, the game now sports a brand new graphical interface.

Additional Commentary options:
Once again, Jonathan Agnew returns to the commentary box to lend his authority and cricketing wisdom to match proceedings. His insightful commentary, guarantees the best match representation yet. It’s almost as good as watching the real thing. But for players who prefer the fast replay mode, we have now added a text commentary which also displays where the ball pitches.

More Bowling Options: As well as line and aggression, players can now set the length of their bowler’s deliveries. This adds a new tactical layer to the game, with players able to force batsmen to play off the front or back foot.

Improved Two Player Game: The two player ‘hot-seat’ game has been enhanced to incorporate county matches. Other improvements include the ability to save teams from the solo game and use these against human players.

Groundsman: Players will now be able to instruct the groundsman to prepare pitches to order.

New World Rating System: The new world rating system allows players to peruse the performance statistics of the world’s ten best batsmen and bowlers.
