A number of 'key' Rockstar employees are involved in the formation of a new games development company, Take-Two has said.
Take-Two will fund development of new intellectual property at the company and will exclusively publish its titles.
Beyond that, little is known about the new studio. Details such as which employees are involved and the studio's name have not been revealed.
This was part of an announcement of the extension of several key Rockstar employees' contracts. Sam and Dan Houser, co-founders of Take-Two, Leslie Benzies, producer of GTA IV and "several other key members of the creative team behind the renowned Grand Theft Auto series" have extended their contracts to January 31st, 2012.
Take-Two has also started a profit-sharing incentive programme for the Rockstar label.
Strauss Zelnick, chairman of Take-Two's board, said, "The talent and creativity at Rockstar are unparalleled in our industry. Their dedication to making extraordinary games has captured the enthusiasm of millions of fans around the world and has contributed enormously to establishing Take-Two as a force in the global video game marketplace and advancing our goal to become the most creative and most innovative company in the industry. In addition, this new chapter in our successful relationship further aligns the interests of our creative teams with those of our shareholders."
Sam Houser added, "The entire Rockstar team has always been dedicated to making groundbreaking games with unprecedented production values, style and depth. We are excited to continue our partnership with the new management team at Take-Two, who have helped us to protect the unique atmosphere that fosters creativity and innovation." Well, he might have said that, or he might have given permission for someone in PR to write whatever they want.
