Miyamoto Touts GameCube WiiMakes
As SPOnG mentioned earlier this week, it looks as though Nintendo Company Limited is looking into the possibility of rereleasing GameCube titles for the upcoming Wii platform, complete with reworked graphics and an adapted control scheme to take advantage of the WiiMote features, news that walks the line between interesting and, we have to say, a tad worrying.

Speaking to Japanese mag Nintendo Dream Nintendo development superstar Shigeru Miyamoto noted, "The machine is based on GC... We'll be upgrading the development tools, but GameCube code can be used for the most part as is. In that sense, I believe that it would be good to remake GameCube games for Wii, and that some titles would become better with the change to the Wii remote controller."

It was noted any such releases would be budget offerings, good news for the system as it will have a many-tiered software offering early in its lifecycle.

"[GameCube titles] are sold at used shops, so we don't feel we could sell them for full price. However, development costs have been taken care of, so we could probably sell them at a more accessible price. If we make it so that such GC to Wii remakes can be produced quickly, it's possible that many titles will also be released from third parties."

It does seem the Wii will see a greater volume of releases than perhaps any machine in history, though again the potential for lower quality game development, initially excused by a novel control schematic (as hinted at in Peter Molyneux's GCDC keynote speech we told you about earlier), is a real possibility and something consumers should ensure they avoid in favour of demanding full-scale game content for the new Nintendo home machine.

We'll bring you more meat on this issue as it emerges in the looming months.

I wouldn't mind some of his games remade. First of all, The gamecube had underwhelming sales, so a lot of people missed them, and they are great. Take Pikmin, could be interesting. How many games did he actually release on the Cube? Less than 10, for sure. And at a fair price... i wouldn't mind, i'm sure i missed a great game here or there, or might be willing to pay a small amount for a game i enjoyed, to enjoy it with new controls.

On the other hand, it's a dangerous precedent to set, knowing that 90% of what 3rd parties put out, is total garbage, which we could do without.

Those titles should not be released anytime soon, though. Otherwise, at least half the public would say "why should I buy a new system for OLD games" no matter how they were adapted to the Wii.

I think it might work, but it should not be anything that Nintendo should spend TOO much time on, I think. They should look more forward than back.

How Nintendo are gonna make any money out of these games being rehashed with Wii options is beyond me, while I like the idea.

I have my GC games still so I can't say I'd rebuy them unless the price is right and very low. Perhaps if you got a few of them for a set price the maybe. Say Pikmin 1 and 2 in a boxset. Metroid Prime and Echoes in a set, Luigi's Mansion ans Mario Sunshine in a set. For £ 15-20 each I might buy again.

What a mug I am?

I think it's a stupid idea.

They could re-relase them unchanged for people who missed them for download, but I really can't see people buying them again.

youre damn right sonnyjim

i have about going on for 40 gamecube games, and they mustve cost me several hundred pounds accumulatively. unless these games are both much improved and dirt cheap (of which im sure there will be few, if any at all) i shall not be buying anything of the sort.
