Video games more popular than the cinema!
The United Kingdom is now third only to Japan and America. The sales figures of the last year help to put this into perspective. ELSPA have announced that the total amount of sales for video games last year was a staggering £934 million pounds.

This means that UK consumers now spend more on video games than renting videos or visiting the cinema. This just shows what the general public thinks about computer games. Games have always been perceived as enjoyable, but they are increasingly seen as a social experience that can be constantly replayed and repeated. How many times do you get out a video and DVD to re-watch it? Sure, you do occasionally, but we’ll bet you get your copy of Gran Turismo off the shelf a whole lot more often.

As far as exports are concerned video games have also overtaken film and Television in that area too. Expect this trend to continue over the forthcoming years. Now that the UK market is doing so well we should hopefully receive greater respect from software developers and publishers. All too often the UK has to make do with delayed releases, and slower screen updates than other countries, but now we’re too important for this shoddy treatment.
