Xbox mod chip man gets a hefty sentence
An American man has been jailed for five months and fined US$28,000 for importing and selling Xbox mod chips. David Rocci of Blacksburg, Virginia was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate copyright laws under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

One of the first people to be imprisoned for violating the DMCA, Rocci was found with about 450 of the Enigmah mod chips, which are used to bypass the Xbox's security system, and originally faced charges of up to five years and half a million US dollars.

If you think he got away lightly, then don't worry because, following his release, Rocci will also be required to serve five months of home detention with electronic monitoring, spend three years on probation, and submit to drug testing and counselling.

It's always nice to see the Judicial System so effectively addressing their crime problem. Perhaps if Rocci had stuck to stealing cars and armed hold-ups, like everyone else, he wouldn't have been tempted into such a hideous crime.

Microsoft were unable to comment on the sentencing, but it is thought that the phrase 'I love it when a plan comes together' was heard throughout the Redmond campus, and nobody was watching the A-Team at the time.
