Bandai triumphantly announced that it had beaten its own financial projections for the year, raking in $216 million in profit, making the company one of the most successful in the industry. On the back of this, the firm announced that a 40 yen per-share dividend will be enjoyed by its shareholders, all good news.
However, the firm, out of the blue, then announced that it will be killing off the WonderSwan project, in news that, given the healthy finances of the firm, came as a great shock to attendees.
Again, Nintendo’s massive dominance in the handheld sector, as it stands today, was cited. Indeed, Nintendo’s new relationship with SquareSoft would seem to have proved a killer blow to the WonderSwan, as prior to the two companies making up after their fall-out, Bandai enjoyed exclusive portable Final Fantasy titles.
Bandai went on the mention that as of this summer, it will begin supporting the GBA, and other mobile platforms, to the fullest.
