Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the genius brainbox behind Rez, Lumines and Meteos, and one of SPOnG’s favourite laid-back Japanese game developers, has just announced details on two new games for PSP and DS.
If SPOnG staffers were movie-buffs, we suppose this would be like the equivalent of hearing that Scorcese or Tarantino had just announced their next films. But we’re not. Movies are so 20th century, man!
The information comes soaring through the Internet courtesy of an IGN translation of the latest copy of Japanese gaming bible, Famitsu. The PSP game will be titled Gunpey-R - that's short for Gunpey Reverse - while the DS will be getting Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse (Connect the Sounds! Gunpey Reverse). The two games are based on the 1999 Wonderswan puzzle game Gunpey and Mizuguchi will be executive producer on both titles.
Both games, unsurprisingly, will mix up dastardly addictive puzzle elements in with some music-creation themes – the Mizuguchi trademark, if you like. For more on what the Rez man has to say,
check out our recent E3 interview here. The name of the new games come from the guy who designed the original Wonderswan, the late Gunpei Yokoi, who also fathered the Game Boy. Both games are set for Japanese release this fall and will be published by Namco Bandai.
SPOnG will bring you the latest news on US and European releases of these exciting sounding new titles from Q Entertainment as soon as we get it.
