Microsoft makes revised Xbox sales projection

Strong showing in the US balances apathy in Japan and Europe.

Microsoft has today announced that it has revised its Xbox sales target. The firm stated that it expected to shift between 3.5 million and 4 million hardware units between the console’s launch and July. It sold a respectable 3.9 million.

This figure was drastically cut earlier this year from the firm’s initial estimate of 6 million consoles.

Microsoft also stated that an average of 4.2 games have been bought by the American consumer. This bout of stat-touting was then followed by a refusal to comment on European and Japanese sales, both in terms of hardware and software. One of the Xbox team’s most infuriating habits is to triumphantly release a set of sales figures and then refuse to answer certain other questions on the grounds that they “do not make comment on statistics or figures.”

In other news XO2, the follow-up to last year’s XO1 has been confirmed. It will be held at a secret location on September 24-25. Last year’s event was held at Pierre Cardin’s villa in Cannes. Which was nice.

Anyway, we have been invited along and as ever, we’ll bring you a full update of anything there that’s spanky and new.
