Steam Tags: Madness for Valve or Just Good Business

Steam - Valve's online shop for games and software - has "over 75 million accounts worldwide". Let's suppose that 70% of these are live, and 90% of those live accounts are owned by individuals... that's a of people that are being told they can tag anything in the store with what they want.

Yes, that's right, Steam has been opened up in beta to us, the general public to tag games with words like, "B00bies", "SpunkSausage" or "CockWomble". Officially, "Tagging gives Steam customers the ability to "Tag" any title with genres, themes, attributes, or any other term or phrase. The most popular tags on any given product will be surfaced on said product's Steam page and allow users to easily find other products associated with that same tag."
