To add to the madness that transpired following the Xbox One reveal last night, Electronic Arts has suddenly reversed its decision on developing Wii U games, after a week of negative comments towards the console. What is going on? Is this real? What is life?Last week, the mega-publisher seemed pretty confident that it wasn't developing any titles for Nintendo's tablet-happy console,
stating that "We have no games in development for the Wii U currently." No room for interpretation there. Even worse were comments made by an EA engineer
who called the console "crap".
But today, at the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference, EA's chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said that "We are building titles for the Nintendo console, but not anywhere near as many as we are for [PlayStation] or Xbox."
He also repositioned EA's stance as a publisher with no particular stake in any console, adding that, "I think what the consumer will find is a lot more powerful gameplay with the new boxes that are coming out, and a lot of excitement, but it'll remain to be seen as to the services associated with those as to how consumers decide which direction they might want to go."
