Rumours had been circling for a while that a successor to Valve's popular Source engine was in development, but in a strange twist it's taken a visit from 4chan to formally confirm such whispers.
A group of internet users from the imageboard's /v/ channel made a pilgrimage to wish Newell a happy birthday, when the man came out and said that Valve was hard at work on a brand new engine - not just an update to the existing one. "We're probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with," he adds.
