Valve has announced its initial line-up of non-games applications to be delivered by Steam and both company and conduit make the move away from a pure-games service and online shop.

With thousands of applications to choose from, it's fascinating that Valve opted to lead off with GameMaker Studio from YoYo Games. As it's name suggest the app enables users to create their own games. It also allows for monetization and development help across multiple platforms.

The rest of the line-up is:

CameraBag 2
GameMaker: Studio
3D-Coat
3DMark Vantage
3DMark 11

Valve points out that, "Many of the launch titles will take advantage of popular Steamworks features, such as easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space so your files may travel with you."
