Fez should have been an XBLA game awash with love and good will. Coming out of Canada's Polytron Corporation, a small indie the game had one small bug that apparently only affected 1% of gamers - but Polytron refused to patch it, citing inordinate costs levied by Microsoft. Not true says Microsoft.Polytron has stated that it won't patch the title, "Because Microsoft would charge us tens of thousands of dollars to re-certify the game."
For its part, Microsoft has explained:
"Polytron and their investor, Trapdoor, made the decision not to work on an additional title update for
Fez. Microsoft Studios chose to support this decision based on the belief that Polytron/Trapdoor were in the best position to determine what the acceptable quality level is for their game. While we do not disclose the cost of Title Updates, we did offer to work with Trapdoor to make sure that wasn't a blocking issue. We remain huge fans of
Fez."
The ball would appear to be in the court of Polytron's voluble leader, Phil Fish.
