Microsoft continues Japanese goodwill tour, confirming plans for region
Microsoft held a press conference over the weekend in Tokyo, to further engender support from a sceptical Japanese market. Company President and honorary Dan Quayle figure, Richard Belluzzo, was joined by Director of Xbox for Japan, Hirohisa Oura and Japanese President, Shinichiro Ata.

In an open-forum question and answer session, the main theme of the conference was in relation to Microsoft’s online strategy in Japan. “As we've already announced, we're partnering with NTT Communications to deliver broadband gaming for the Xbox in Japan,” said Ata-san. “Online gaming is an integral part to our strategy and the design of the system itself. While we can't go into specifics about our plans yet, we're determined to offer online services within six months of releasing the console in the United States and Japan.”

As well as reaffirming the February 22 launch date, a Japanese pre-launch event was announced. To be held on January 11, the company will host a media party to disclose price-point, hardware allocation figures and launch line-up.
