Japanese Hardware: Nintendo Benefits From Holiday Spree
T’is the season! Almost every single platform saw a rise in sales in this week’s Japanese Hardware Chart (6th - 12th December 2010, courtesy Media Create). Even the PSP Go, despite the fact the DS Lite and PlayStation 2 have managed to push it back into last place.

Console Chart:
Wii: 79,424 (56,095)
PS3: 41,882 (41,760)
Xbox 360: 3,695 (3,497)
PS2: 2,054 (1,332)

Handheld Chart:
PSP: 158,029 (323,653)
DSi LL: 59,709 (40,465)
DSi: 55,993 (36,481)
DS Lite: 3,309 (1,580)
PSP Go: 1,904 (1,875)

(Previous week’s unit sales in brackets for comparison)

The only one to experience a drop from last week was the PSP-3000, but even then it continues to sell like mad - the new Monster Hunter helping it sell nearly 160,000 units. The Wii performs well, buoyed by the rise in software sales leading into the holiday period, and the domination of DS titles in the Software Chart has translated into positive numbers for Nintendo’s handhelds as well.
