Final Fantasy TV show previews in Japan
Square’s ever-burgeoning TV and film arm recently previewed its latest offering, Final Fantasy, the TV series, to an assortment of Japanese press.

The series will debut on TV-Tokyo next week and is expected to draw a huge audience. The following SquareSoft has gained with the Final Fantasy series, its headline property, is massive, and more to the point, loyal.

The series will not be based around any existing storyline, nor will it feature any recognisable characters. A completely new cast has been devised, along with totally original scripts. This is not the mistake it may appear to be, as Square has proved time and time again that Final Fantasy fans are happy to meet and get to know new characters with every instalment.

Square did confirm that there will be many recognisable features present, including summoned creatures and Chocobos.

The entire project is a collaboration between a selection of SquareSoft animators and TV-Tokyo consultants. It would appear that the network, Japan’s biggest, doesn’t fully trust Square to come up with a TV series that will appeal to a broader section of the public than just RPG fans.

The first episode is aired tonight at 6.30 in Japan. The good news for you lot is that an English translation of the series is underway.
