UKIE Leaks UK Chart Sales Figures - Rock Band 3 Sold 7.3k Copies UPDATED
**** UPDATE - the UKIE page, pictured - has now been removed **** END UPDATE

Chart-track doesn't simply collate statistics for the UK games industry for the love of it. Nope, it charges subscribers for details that don't usually get a public airing.

Those details include things like the number of units of a game sold. So, it came as some surprise when today the The Association For UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE) webite - formerly ELSPA and the copyright holder for the data - decided to publish those figures for free.

In short, we now know that in the last week:

Fable III sold 128,895 units across all formats.
Fallout: New Vegas sold 69,613.
FIFA 11 sold 75,703.
Just Dance 2 sold 58,375.
Medal of Honor sold 48,650.

Possibly as interesting is the fact that The X-Factor game sold 4,335 while Rock Band 3 sold a meagre 7,386 units across all formats.

It's time for a quick compare and contrast between the "Free to all to see" version and the "Pay your subs" version:

Official Chart Track for Public Release
Microsoft's Fable III begins life at the top of the All Formats Chart this week, deposing Fallout: New Vegas (-55%), which slips to No3.

UKIE's published version with figures

And the guts...

UKIE's published version with figures
"The highly anticipated sequel from UK developer Lionhead Studios outsells the launch week of Fable II by around 6,000 units making it the 13th biggest Xbox 360 launch ever and the 4th biggest Xbox 360 launch of 2010. It is Microsoft's 3rd All Formats No1 so far in 2010 (after Crackdown 2 and Halo: Reach). There was only 1 Microsoft title last year that reached No1 in the All Formats Chart (Halo 3: ODST). FIFA 11 (75,703 / +10%) rises one place to No2, while Ubisoft's Just Dance 2 (58,375 / +2%) also manages to climb one place, up to No4. The next highest new entry is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (56,064) at No5. The original title debuted at No1 back in W38 2008. EA's Medal of Honor (48,650 / -53%) falls 4 places to No6, ahead of this weeks 3rd highest new entry WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2011 (47,785), new at No7. Nintendo's highest charting game remains Professor Layton and the Lost Future (45,470 / -23%) despite a drop of 4 places to No8, while EA can now claim 3 Top 10 titles as the release of The Sims 3 (28,624 / +999%) on next-gen formats propels it back into the chart at No9. Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 (26,732) holds on to its position on the Top 10, down one place to No10, helped by a healthy 93% increase in sales. The Sims is also at No15 this week thanks to the release of PC expansion The Sims 3: Late Night (13,139). There are also new entries for EA's Rock Band 3 (7,386) at No26 and The X-Factor (4,335) from Deep Silver/Koch at No37."

Ooops. Also seems the UKIE site's chart page has gone AWOL. Maybe they traded chart summaries for insider figures? Which would be nice.

Interesting to see what sort of numbers games do nowadays but it's definitely lower than one would expect for game sales in the last few years.

Hopefully things will pick up leading up to Christmas, or it may be a clear message that players are waiting for CoD: Black Ops to be released next Tuesday.

In fairness, there were over a hundred games released last week, which might have meant people's spending was spread a little thing. Everyone with a game that's not for Kinect or CoD was trying to launch before Kinect and CoD.

Still, that X-Factor figure's surprisingly low. I expect it'll be a title with a longer tail than many, though. The mainstream audience who want to warble along to X-Factor are not necessarily the same folk who rush out to buy their games in week 1...
