Xbox Tokyo Game Show strategy revealed
Microsoft’s Japanese gaming division has released the first details of its plans to make a big impression at the Tokyo Game Show the annual event that takes place between October 12th and 14th at the Makuhari Messe.

It has been recognised for some time that Microsoft sees the fall TGS as a last chance to impress the Japanese gaming industry and consumers with its new console and games.

The company was badly mauled at the Spring TGS, an event that saw Japanese gamers queuing up to laugh at the unusually large hardware. This lead to Microsoft tactically withdrawing all but one of its console mock-ups from E3 later in the year.

This time around Microsoft is wisely going to focus on its games and will be monopolizing the showfloor with around 150 playable game booths, a lot by any standards. The company plans to have 20 to 30 different titles available, most of which will be of American origin.

Sensibly though, the Japanese Xbox team will focus much of the attention on Tecmo’s Team Ninja fighter Dead or Alive 3, a garanteed crowd pleaser. As one of Japan’s most respected producers of hardcore games, Tecmo will be the bait that Microsoft will use, in what has to be seen as a brilliant, if blatant tactical move by the American giant.

We will bring you show coverage as it happens.
