In an inevitable step in the process of releasing a new console, Microsoft has delayed the US launch of Xbox by one week.
Now scheduled to hit stores on November 15, the console will have just three days of shelf time before Nintendo’s GameCube is released. From then on, competition will be very stiff.
Current market leader, Sony, may once again be looking to spoil the fun of any new entries. Expect a price cut in the US around November, and possibly some kind of platinum range too.
Microsoft claims that the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre has nothing to do with the decision and sales targets up to the end of December 2001 have remained at one million, despite a possible reduction day one consoles. Retailers are estimating only 300,000 units will be available on November 15.
There is no change to the European release schedule. Expect the giant machine buckle shop shelves sometime next Easter with a £300 price tag.
