Evolution: Motorstorm Apocalypse had 3D from the Start
Motorstorm Apocalypse is one of the first PlayStation 3 games to be implementing 3D, and during a live chat on the official PS.Blog Evolution Studios revealed that the technology was part of the development process from the start.

"We've always had 3D in mind for MotorStorm Apocalypse ever since we first implemented 3D into MotorStorm Pacific Rift," said lead designer Paul Rustchynsky. "Where we realised just how impressive and immersive an effective it was. It really does give you a much greater impression of depth, which in a racing game is really useful to judge speed and cornering."

You'll remember Rustchynsky had something of a different tale to tell when SPOnG spoke to him back in June, suggesting that 3D had yet to be implemented. Cheeky.

When asked if the 3D capability allows for faster lap times than if played in 2D, game director Matt Southern added. "The balancing act is to ensure that it really offers something unique and special, without it being a pre-requisite. We've had several years worth of R&D to bring to the game now. Our simulation guys have been tinkering with 3D for about 5 years, and before that they were doing the same at BAE (British Aerospace)."

A few other notable tidbits from the chat included information on the destructibility of the game - namely, that it won't always occur in the same way in a level. Evolution also revealed that it will be attending Gamescom. What a coincidence, so is SPOnG! We'll let you know more about the game from the Cologne show floor.
