Japan Hardware: Nintendo Gains Over E3 2010
The Wii claws ahead of the PlayStation 3 in this week's Japanese Hardware Chart (7th - 13th June 2010, courtesy Media Create), thanks to some impressive sales of both Super Mario Galaxy 2 and current chart-topper Xenoblade.

Home Console
Wii: 20,588 (18,818)
PS3: 17,676 (18,951)
360: 3,225 (3,258)
PS2: 1,291 (1,316)

Handheld
PSP: 21,662 (23,588)
DSi LL: 11,138 (10,737)
DSi: 10,172 (8,219)
DS Lite: 3,108 (1,743)
PSP Go: 718 (1,026)

(Previous week's unit sales in brackets for comparison)

Nintendo platforms are the only ones that are showing any sales gain, in fact, with all other formats taking a dive from last week. The PS3 could not be buoyed by the entrance of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Just Cause 2 to the software chart, while the PSP suffers the same fate. While the 3000 series still sits atop the handheld tree, total DS family sales outweigh its number.

Could the sudden interest in DS platforms have anything to do with Nintendo's reveal of the 3DS system? It wouldn't make sense to us, but gamers have been known to rally behind platforms based on good news...

Media Create doesn't, so we don't.
