Pachter: Xbox 360, PS3 Price Cuts
Michael Pachter - video game analyst for financial advisory types Wedbush Morgan, and quote-a-mile-man - has released a note to investors. He looks into the future and declares: price cut!

Here are his words, “Xbox 360 sales have kept pace with PS3 sales since the price cuts, and we expect this to persist well into 2010, but this implies solid year-over-year growth for the PS3.

"We think that the PS3 may slightly outsell the Xbox 360 in December, due to significant advertising during the holidays. We expect another price cut for both systems some time this year (around summer), but note that because its manufacturing costs are lower, Microsoft has the ability to lower price as early as March or April.

"At a minimum, we anticipate the introduction of a more feature-packed Xbox 360 in early 2010 (likely with a 250Gb hard drive) at the same $299 price point, and think that Microsoft will cut price early in the year only if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony.”

God lord, at least soothsayers bothered with the first person singular.

Bear in mind that Pachter is talking to corporate investors rather than people who read video game news blogs day and night. So, don't be quite so smug when he states what might seem obvious regarding the benighted/ahead-of-its-time PSP Go, "The PSP Go launched on October 1 to little fanfare, and we do not see dramatic sales gains for that device until it is priced more reasonably.”
