The UK video games industry body, ELSPA, has been quick to use a recently announced online game that encourages UK citizens to experience life as an MP for a week.

In an official statement, ELSPA director general Mike Rawlinson stated, comments, "We are pleased to see Parliament embracing video games in this way and finally appreciating the relevance of video games in many areas of work and play".

The games - helpfully called MP for a Week - has been created by the Parliamentary education service as a way to enlighten people as to the stresses and strains put on honourable members during a week of committees, interviews, debates and other duties.

Mr Rawlinson continues, "We see this as a great example of how games can be a valuable interactive educational tool and reaching out to young people and engaging them with Parliament through learning play is an innovative way of using videogame technology. Such games are an important part of today’s popular culture and this is a logical step to broaden their usage."

Given that it is now obvious that someone in Parliament can indeed see the value of video games, maybe someone at the Inland Revenue will see the value in retaining game development talent.
