With an
outcry, a petition,
moaning about DLC, and a potential boycott, you could say that Valves
Left 4 Dead (and its sequel) have been living in interesting times.
Well, on the upside,
Left 4 Dead 2's project manager, a Mr Chet Faliszek, has brought the
following news for
L4D modders content creators who wish to take their hard work to
L4D2: "For modders, everything they make in Left 4 Dead will work in
Left 4 Dead 2. It'll work better if they bring it into
Left 4 Dead 2 and recompile it for
Left 4 Dead 2, using some of the additions we've made, but it'll work out of the box as well."
Someone, somewhere is already starting a petition regarding the information that the mods will work better if recompiled.
In terms of the uproar regarding a perception that the release of L4D2 would mean the end of support for its precursor, however, Valve's
Mr Awesome (aka, Chet Faliszek)
states, "We never thought, 'We need to say that we’re going to keep updating
Left 4 Dead', because that was always our plan."
In terms of the complaints from a loyal fanbase (or a bunch of whingers, depending on what side of the fence you want to care about), he has this to say, "I once joked that we could put $20 in a box and charge $10 for it, and someone’s going to complain." We're not sure how they quite relates though...
