Japan Xmas: PS2 & Xbox 360 Draw
Over in Japan people like to give each other presents around what we like to think of a Xmas Eve. It's a fun thing to do because it enables more shopping. So, how did video game hardware do over the festive week?

Well, for the week of December 29th to January 4th, Vgchartz has apparently managed to extract figures from this Famitsu page regarding hardware sales.

According to this, handhelds ruled the roost, while the Xbox 360 and Sony PS2 called it a draw with each matching the other's sales figure.

The breakdown is:

DSi 201,000 + DS = 58,000 = 259,000
PSP = 169,000
Wii = 141,000
PS3 = 68,000
PS2 = 19,000
360 = 19,000

Frankly, nothing too astonishing here save perhaps a little shock that Microsoft's push of the Xbox 360 into Japan didn't pay off a smidgeon bigger over the busy buying period. However, with two new game and console bundles due in coming months, sales will be energised.

The PS3, unlike the Wii, couldn't bust the 100,000 mark for the week (Sony relied on the PSP), but didn't embarrass itself with second position in the console stakes. At least according to the Vgchartz post.

Here is another fine example of vgchartz stealing research from a company and making it its own. Why won't anyone stop vgchartz from doing this? Are Internet laws that lax?
