Donkey Kong Racing Announced
Nintendo’s loyal second-party developer Rare has announced its first racing game for GameCube. Donkey Kong Racing will be showcased in rolling demo form at E3 in Los Angeles this week, and will demonstrate just what the GameCube is capable of.

Striving for innovation once again, Rare has disposed of mechanical methods of transport in favour of classic Donkey Kong creatures, many of which were featured on the SNES classic, Donkey Kong Country. Players will be able to ride on the backs of rhinos, ostriches and piranha as they go for glory in a range of environments. Races take place on the ground, in the sky and under water. Most interestingly, and to be a successful racer, players must train and feed their ‘vehicle’ by collecting fruit during the race. Similar in theme to the N64’s Diddy Kong Racing, the GameCube release will feature the whole of the Kong family along with several other well-known characters.

The game is scheduled for a 2002 release in all territories. We’ll bring you more info on Donkey Kong Racing as we get it.
