Nintendo still rules the roost

US Hardware Charts Feb 2008: Our Trends Electric
US stats deliver, the NPD Group, has given its judgement on February sales figures for consoles and handhelds in its home country this February.

One thing is for sure, Microsoft was right when he said that expected 'to trail' in February. For the second month this year it sees the 360 trailing both Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii. Brilliant inventory tracking by Microsoft? Or simply saving all the hardware up for the April 29th GTA IV onslaught? Or both?

Then again, all is not brilliant in the world of latest-gen hardware, with Sony seeing the PS3 sales dragging behind PS2 once again. Still, the PS3 managed to sell 29,800 more units in February over January.

Nintendo is either now largely devoid of supply woes or fewer people want to buy the Wii. Nope, the fact that it's added 163,000 sales of the Wii to last month's 274,000 sales does indicate that people still want Wii.

Sales all round were up month-on-month with 631,900 units more passing from retail to happy gamers than in January.

Hardware Sales USA
Nintendo DS - 587,600
Nintendo Wii - 432,000
Sony PlayStation 2 - 351,800
Sony PlayStation 3 - 280,800
Microsoft Xbox 360 - 254,600
Sony PSP - 243,100
Total hardware: 2,149,900

This year will be very interesting, heck this whole generation has been by now.

Also another nice trend that started from December onwards: the Nintendo hardware is also selling the most software so Xbots can't use that anymore as an argument.

The danger still exists that the Wii is indeed consolidating itself as the new PS2...if only the PS2 wasn't still selling so good itself.

God i hope they show the new Zelda of at next E3, even if it would take another two years to finish the thing.

Was a nice read until you said 'xbots' I tire of going down that road anyhow...

Lots of people own a Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, overall Xbox 360 and Wii have the highest number of consoles sold however this gen is about owning more than 1 console.

Wii offers something different, Xbox 360 also and so does the PS3.

With the PS3 being at the front in the most suped up hardware as said before it just needs games but it appears that only the exclusives like MGS4 and FF13 will show what the PS3 can really do imo.

Same goes with the 360 again its all about developers sitting down with one platform and doing their best.

Personally I grow tired of who has sold the most, next gen after this is going to get worse I know it...As long as my consoles have games made for them and the company behind each console pulls their weight to ensure games come out and has full support and features etc don't care no more.
