Bandai’s Japan-only portable Game Boy Advance competitor, the WonderSwan Color was sitting pretty at the Tokyo Game Show with a new exclusive Final Fantasy title and an impressive range of new add-ons.
Final Fantasy II from Square was shown at the event, complete with limited edition console and FF themed strap.
Also on display were three impressive new gadgets for the machine. WonderBorg is a programmable robot spider, which is controlled and operated using the WonderSwan. Also on show was the WonderSwan MP3, a little gadget that can turn the WonderSwan into a little MP3 player. It can take both Smart Media and Sony Memory Sticks, and just plugs into the expansion bay on the back of the machine.
Bandai also unveiled the revolutionary WonderSwan GPS, a satellite map locator. The machine will be launched with GPS Super Pac-Man and GPS let’s Play Golf.
GPS Super Pac-Man will enable the player to play Pac-Man in the streets of Japan. GPS Let’s Play Golf sees golf take to the streets, with players hitting through any neighbourhood included in the map pack.
“We have by no means ruled out offering the WonderSwan Color to a wider audience,” said a Bandai spokesman. “At present we do not feel the console has wide enough appeal to warrant a global launch but we will exhibit at E3 and take it from there.”
