BAFTA Games Awards: Victim Of Own Success
SPOnG will be heading down to the darkest depths of south London later this October for the all-new, all-improved videogame BAFTAs, which we’ve just been informed are to take place at the Battersea Evolution centre (pictured) on October 23rd.

It seems that BAFTA needs a bigger venue this year and the Evolution centre can accommodate more than 2,000 guests – quite a few more than the 700 that attended last year’s event.

"We can accommodate 3,000 guests standing up, although the number of people we can have seated is 700 max. It's a shame for us to lose the event, I suppose it's become almost a victim of its own success," confirmed a Roundhouse spokesperson to SPOnG today.

“We needed to find somewhere which gave us room to expand, because the Academy’s long term commitment is to make these awards the global kitemark of games excellence,” said BAFTA’s head of awards Anne-Marie Flynn. “Last year we mounted the most highly attended Awards in the industry and this year will be even bigger.”

ELSPA director general and chair of the academy’s games committee Paul Jackson added: “In a very short space of time, an Academy Video Games Award – which recognises excellence in the fastest-growing form of entertainment – has become the most coveted in the industry.”

SPOnG has put a call into BAFTA and we should find out shortly who is to host the awards. Hopefully some people who have played a videogame at some point in their lives this year and not a bunch of C-list for hire 'might get coverage in Heat' type celebs like last year.
