New toolset to launch at EGN.

Leading independent developer Blitz Games is preparing to launch its in-house ‘Flame’ toolset at EGN (European Games Network) by showcasing the latest work on its action horror title Possession.

Flame is the latest component added to BlitzWare, the company’s exclusive core technology, and is designed to provide detailed control and implementation of materials, shaders and lighting effects. Flame is tightly integrated with the company’s FUSE engine, Flare content creation tool and Babel cross-platform runtime libraries and will enable artists to interactively design all manner of advanced surface and special material effects that will maximise the graphical potential of the next generation of gaming platforms.

Blitz gained a lot of interest in its horror game Possession when it was initially pitched at this year’s E3 but since then the implementation of Flame has enabled the team to bring the zombies to life in a way never before seen in a video game. The system allows real-time skin degradation in the zombies with the use of multiple-layered texture and normal maps while a physics-driven limb damage system enables the characters to be mutilated and decapitated as they are attacked.

Blitz continues to reinforce its long-term commitment to investing in research and development as Andrew Oliver, Chief Technical Officer, explains: “Blitz’s technology has long been respected in the industry and Possession has given us the opportunity to expand its capabilities in a way that showcases our creativity as well as our next generation toolset.”
