Cryo Networks announces the UK launch of VENICE, the groundbreaking online multiplayer resource and management strategy game based on 16th century Venice that enables players to accumulate wealth, make alliances and increase their political power. The game utilises SCOL: the fastest available 3D technology on the Internet driven by 26/56K modems. Released in the U.K. by Cryo Networks on March 31st, Venice will retail at £34.99. This stunning CD-ROM provides the key to some of the most spectacular real-time first person 3D graphics ever witnessed on the Internet.

Cryo Networks, a new subsidiary of Cryo Interactive was recently launched across Europe to specialise in online entertainment. To play Venice, players will require a PC with a minimum of a Pentium 133 processor, 32MB RAM, Windows 95 or 98, an SVGA video card with 2MB memory, a SoundBlaster compatible sound card, a CD-ROM drive, a mouse and a 28.8 kbs modem with an Internet connection.

Access to the Venice game server is free of charge for the first 6 months. Once the 6 months are up, players will enter into an online payment system. Original purchasers of the Venice CD-ROM will be expected to renew his or her subscription by choosing between a minimum of 1 month to a maximum of 12 months for unlimited additional gameplay. A full download demo version may also be accessed directly from www.venezia-on-line.net.

Venice is a permanent online world that can play host to an unlimited number of virtual Venetians. When historical areas like St. Mark's Square, specially re-created for the game, become too densely populated, the Cryo Networks development team will continue to add more neighbourhoods and cities, giving new changes and depth to the online experience of a real virtual world where just about anything can happen.

Instead of playing against the computer, players will have the opportunity to battle their wits against an entire world populated by ambitious power mongers who seek ultimate wealth and power, in the hopes of eventually becoming mayor. Should a player stay away from the game for too long, he or she may find themselves robbed of most of their wealth. A carefully chosen alliance, however, will not only offer protection but will also increase financial power of shared resources.

A typical strategy might take a player from the main port, where he or she will have to collect various raw materials. These will be brought back from an expedition to Alexandria, to a production facility, where selected raw materials are transformed into manufactured goods that offer better margins in the city's various markets. Certain goods, such as spices and precious stones, are almost always in high demand, and a speculation war on the Venice commodities exchange will either make or break several fortunes.

Economic success creates social status, and the wonders of the art market will open up an even higher level of prestige for ambitious online speculators. Successful players will be expected to formulate a political campaign by securing various administrative and lucrative charges, all of which will result into the responsibility of the Doge; the supreme position of the republic. Success has its price, however, and ambitious strategists will constantly seek out the leading players' economic, social and political weaknesses.

The online world of Venice includes a diverse selection of ultra-realistic virtual scenarios from disasters, famine, popular revolt and even invasions. Individual adventure games are tastefully integrated around the ever-changing world of Venice. Players can enrich their art collection by searching for artifacts in distant lands. On the whole, however, it is the online community that exists within Venice that ultimately decides the fate of their cherished city.
