3DO Europe is set to drag multiplayer gaming kicking and screaming into a new world with the release of Legends of Might and Magic, a revolutionary, first person multiplayer adventure, due to be published for PC CD-ROM in April 2001.
Hallmarked by world-famous game developer New World Computing, Legends of Might and Magic takes the already proven Might and Magic formula and combines it with state-of-the-art 3D gameplay to provide a first-person multiplayer gaming experience never before seen in the Might and Magic universe.
Legends of Might and Magic takes you on a dark journey of struggle and conquest. You have been chosen to team-up with other adventurers trying to halt the advancement of the opposing legion and rewrite history in their own images. Travel to distant worlds of epic fantasy-filled dungeons and bloodstained battlefields. Battle hundreds of creatures and recover unknown treasures as you strive to be crowned champion. Only those of stout heart, limitless courage and a thirst for adventure will succeed and become true legends in the Might and Magic universe.
The gleaming chain mail holding this mighty warrior together is its multi-player compatibility. With Internet and LAN prowess and a Team vs. Team mode for up to 16 players, Legends is a scenario-based experience that can be shared with enemies and allies the world over. Furthermore, a random adventure generator will ensure unlimited replayability.
The warhorse behind Legends of Might and Magic’s polished armour is the powerful Lithtech™ 2.0 3D game engine. Developed by Monolith, this young steed ensures the slick animation and in-game graphics run ferociously fast and free across beautifully rendered landscapes. Through swamps, forests, castles and dungeons players will become completely immersed in an unparalleled, ultra realistic 3D kingdom.
Legends of Might and Magic is being built around Team Deathmatch play. Players can choose to fight on the side of Good or Evil and, in any given scenario, must work together with their team-mates to complete their objective before the other team completes theirs. In most cases the objectives directly oppose each other (Evil has captured the Princess and must stop a rescue attempt by Good, while Good must either rescue the Princess or eliminate the forces of Evil), but some scenarios have both teams pursuing the same goal (such as recovering the Holy Grail).
In addition to the human-controlled teams, many scenarios will include native monsters that will attempt to stand in the way of opposing forces, or ally their strength with a losing team to further challenge the stronger team. At this time, six different scenario types are planned (such as Rescue the Princess, Slay the Dragon and Find the Holy Grail), but multiple scenarios within each type will offer many variations on any specific theme.
Each of these scenarios will be staged in a famous location from one of the previous Might and Magic games, from the Perilous Peaks of Varn to the Dwarf Mines of Xeen, from the Dungeons and Temples of Enroth to the war-torn lands of Erathia. Each round of gameplay will take 5-10 minutes to complete, but the rewards gained by winning a round (or in some cases just surviving) will carry over to the next, allowing players to develop their characters and upgrade their equipment as each objective is completed.
Legends of Might and Magic will be published for PC CD-ROM by 3DO Europe in April 2001.
