Summary

Eager to take Ready 2 Rumble off the top spot of the Game Boy Advance boxing game league is Ubi Soft’s Mike Tyson Boxing.

Endorsed by the man himself, players can take control of Mike Tyson in a bid to defeat up to 90 other opponents, ten of which are hidden and must be unlocked. But if you feel you’ll get more satisfaction from opposing Mike, feel free to take a few swings with any of the other characters. It's your choice.

Visually, Mike Tyson Boxing has been very well executed. The game environments, although only pseudo-3D, allow for full 360-degree movement. The characters themselves have been rendered in good old fashioned 2D format, but the animation is fluid and recreates some nasty punches convincingly.

Showcase, World and Practice modes of play ensure that players get the variety they need from a boxing title, but it is the Versus option where most of the excitement and longevity is held. Via link cable, you can defend your title against one other friend in a frantic game of lightning quick reactions and brute force. Also, three difficulty settings ensure that this game is instantly accessible to all games players.

So is it the best boxing game for Nintendo’s miniature SNES? Well that’s a matter of opinion, but we wholeheartedly recommend giving it go.
