The super-scary Aliens Vs Predator in 1999 chilled more than a few souls. Anxious for another dose of survival horror, cinema-style, the population of gaming wimps can now get their hands on Fox’s highly-anticipated sequel, Aliens Vs Predator 2 for PC.

As with the original, Aliens Vs Predator 2 (AVP2) allows players to participate as any of three races – the Alien, the Predator and the aggressive Marine. Each of the three sections of the game comes with a series of unique levels that are suited to the capabilities of the species. For example, the marine is weak and is equipped with a heavy arsenal of weapons, while the Alien lacks weapons, but is able to climb the deepest chasms and traverse the steepest environments. This feature alone effectively splits AVP2, like its predecessor, into three individual games.

Graphically, AVP2 is superior in many ways. The environments have been increased both in size and in detail, and 32-bit animated light mapping allows AVP2 to showcase some truly stunning real-time effects. True, such enhancements raise the minimum specifications for the game, but players with fast machines will be rewarded with a highly atmospheric playing experience.

Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and a variety of online multi-player levels help to make AVP2 one of the most challenging and varied games available for any system.

All in all AVP2 is a highly desirable sequel to one of the most terrifying and atmospheric games ever created. Turn the lights off and get scared. << less
