Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing yesterday released further details of the long awaited sequel to Alien vs Predator, arguably the most terrifying PC experience of 1999.

As in the original, Alien vs. Predator 2 features a series of levels that are played by one of three unique species – the Marine, the Alien and the Predator. This scenario effectively splits AVP 2 into three different games.

The single player mode has been enhanced, allowing the player control one of three bonus characters, yet to be named. This mode of play now takes the player through 21 brand new missions. The popular multi-player mode has been expanded upon and now features Team Maps, more Deathmatches and a choice of ten characters. Players can look forward to a series of new abilities and weapons, such as welding and net guns.

The most noticeable improvement over the original can be seen in the visuals. They are highly advanced, boasting 32-bit light mapping and accurately modelled and detailed environments. The new LithTech Development System has been used to improve the game engine and improve AI routines.

Alien vs Predator 2 is still scheduled for Q4 2001 on PC, with console versions still being considered for release at a later date.
