Konami Studio Kojima Productions has confirmed what has been unofficially disclosed for some time: that a fourth Metal Gear Solid game is in production and that it will appear on the PlayStation 3. For the first time the game will feature a multiplayer combat mode. Mention of this immediately fuelled speculation that the emphasis would be more on action than in recent stealth-'em-up outings. This is also hinted at by the game's tagline, 'No Place to Hide'.
The last Metal Solid game was a prequel to the first two, taking place in a Russian jungle during the Cold War. MGS 4 continues to follow the adventures of Snake, but will take place after the events of MGS 2. It appears that Hideo Kojima will be acting in a more hands-on production capacity than had previously been thought.
