Namco Vs Capcom Revealed. Really! Full Details Inside
Imagine a very Japanese thing. Like, um, a complex neon-lit vending machine full of sexually-themed sushi. Quite Japanese, you may think. Perhaps you imagined the sun setting behind Mount Fuji, content that you had thought of the most Japanese thing possible.

Well, you’d be wrong, as you begin to comprehend Namco Vs Capcom, a strategy RPG based around the international language of fighting and revenge! Really, the game is in development, 70% complete in fact, and is underway for the PlayStation 2.

The character list confirmed thus far reads:

Namco:
Xenosaga Ep1: Characters include Kos-Mos
Soul Calibur 2: Characters include Mitsurugi Heishiro
Tales of Destiny: Characters include Stahn Auron, Rudee Katred
Legend of Valkyrie: Characters include Valkyrie
Wondermomo: Characters include Wondermomo
Beraboman: Characters include Beraboman
Tekken: Characters include Jin Kazuma and others

Capcom:
DarkStalkers: Characters include Dimitri, Morrigan (Same old sprite folks) Phobos, Zeble
Strider: Characters include Hiryu
Street Fighter: Characters include Ryu, Chun Li, Vega
Ghost and Goblins: Characters include Arthur, Goblin, Death
Gun Survivor 4: Characters include Bruce McGaven
Dino Crisis: Characters include Regina

As to exactly what gameplay is on offer, well that’s not quite nailed down at time of going to press. There is certainly classic RPG marching about on a quest-type stuff, and we can see from the scans (check our forum below) that there are fighting scenes. However, as to whether these blend seamlessly with any kind of tap-forward-quarter-circle dragon punch stuff remains unclear.

Anyway, the game is a PlayStation 2 exclusive right now, and is being developed by Monolith, for publication by Namco in Japan later this year. As soon as there’s more, we’ll let you have it. And in the meantime, no-one mention Sammy Vs Capcom. Okay?

Excuse my melodramatic, overstated reaction, but:

Sweet Mary and Joseph! This will be the best thing EVER!

Phew, that's better.

Yes it does look very Japanese. I think if they wanted to a new SF game they should star by using resolutions above 320x240 for once. Also try to use new character art, I mean really how much does an artist charge to draw a few stills? A GG vs SF would be awesome except it would look like the GG charaters are fighting a mosaic blob.

How hard its it to use the RE4 graphic engine to make a new SF game? You are only going ot have 2 characters on screen at a time its not going to eat up resources.

They (Japanese) may be able to make video games, but man their graphic design is straight out of the NYC subway, trash!

Whats wrong with the graphics?

This is a game that would work really well on the PSP, lets hope they port it.

"Namco x Capcom is a standard strategy RPG with a touch of action gameplay. Players move their character units around a field map; moving near an enemy triggers a battle. Players can work in single units, with one character who fights alone, or in pair units, where a single player controls two characters at once. Namco x Capcom also features plenty of chatter between characters throughout the game.

Namco x Capcom uses a 2D battle screen, and the controls are pretty easy. Players attack by holding down one of the four directions on the D pad and pressing the circle button, or by pressing the circle button alone. Players have a power meter; when it's full, they can execute a more-powerful attack with the triangle button.

Not the graphics, but new sprites would be nice. Is that too much to ask. But I'm talking about the overall design/layout. It looks like an ad for asian escorts or really lowgrade cellphone ringtones and graphics. I'm suprized there's no starburst graphics for when each character got hit. Chun-Li was hit for the low low price of 400HP! Although, a cheesy magazine layout ad wouldn't be such a theme for a game. (gets out pad, scribbles down notes) This is not going to turn out good, I know it...
