Bioware: the acclaimed developer behind Star Wars fan favourite Knights Of The Old Republic and the much-anticipated Jade Empire, has announced today that it has acquired the license to utilise Epic Games’ impressive Unreal 3 engine in its future works. It’s all positive news really; Bioware makes great games, and Epic have a great engine. If all goes according to plan, this new mystery project will be, in want of a better description, great.

Alas, there are no further details to offer at this point in time. Judging by previous output, it would be reasonable to guess that the new game will contain RPG elements; and with the adoption of the Unreal 3 engine, it will likely take a first-person perspective. That automatically conjures up images of something along the lines of Deus Ex: which would surely be appreciated by many. That is, of course, a purely speculative suggestion, but it would be a surprise if Bioware were to create just a straight-forward FPS.

Either way, “A Bioware development team’s already hard at work on the Unreal Engine 3-powered game, an as yet unannounced title which features Bioware’s third new intellectual property.” (as announced on Bioware’s website) so it shouldn’t be too long until more palpable information comes to light.
