Colour truth emerges from SCEJ

PSP Blackout! Henry Ford smiles from grave
In last week's Famitsu, it emerged that Sony's Portable gaming offering, the PSP, will only be available in black - not any of the interesting pastel colours as touted at this year's E3.

Speaking to the Japanese magazine, a Sony PR representative said, "[The multiple coloured machines] were just for reference. We plan to make the system black," which seems a little short sighted, given that the black version was considered by many to be the least attractive PSP shown at the LA Expo.

As IGN points out, it seems highly unlikely that Sony will stick to a Henry Ford-inspired black-only policy, though current thinking is that black will be the only option at launch.

If this changes, we'll let you know.

This will most likely change later on. Sony are playing poker face with all of us. You'd be surprised the amount of GBAs that sold just on the cosmetic side of things, in various GBA versions.

The Famicom/NES GBASP is the latest to shift loads because of the retro look. Sony just want us to forget this factor and buy black, just like with their tv's etc.

The PSP! Available in any color you want, as long as its black!

Well, that's just great Sony, but you'd be wise to do what Nintendo has done all these years and make a killing off of special edition cases and a multitude of colors.
