Kutaragi points towards high-powered, low-priced PSP
The PSP, Sony Computer Entertainment’s portable gaming device, is still something of an enigma, with the firm unwilling or unable to offer details beyond what seems like the vaguest of product outlines.

However, SCE head alchemist Ken Kutaragi, speaking to Reuters Japan over the weekend, made some interesting comments relating to what the end product might be.

Indeed, when quizzed over the price-point of PSP, he claimed that, as the machine will share many key components with the current PlayStation 2 model, the cost of production, and therefore the price to the end consumer, may be somewhat less than most analysts predict.

Of course, this sparked speculation that, far from being a portable PSone, the PSP’s power-output may be more akin to the current PlayStation 2 console, underlining Kutaragi’s hints after E3 that the machine’s power may come as something of a surprise.

We look forward to bringing you a full breakdown of the PSP as it’s announced.
