- UPDATE -

Harmonix has been in contact with a clarification to our original story:

"As part of the restructuring, Alex Rigopulos will remain a part of the management team, but will be stepping into the role of Chief Creative Officer, driving creative for the studio moving forward. Steve Janiak, formerly our head of publishing and business operations, will be assuming the position of CEO.

Harmonix is in the process of restructuring our organization to bring it into alignment with our current and future product development plans. Unfortunately, this means making the difficult decision to reduce the number of full-time staff. We sincerely appreciate the work of each and every one of these employees. Harmonix is working to ensure that those affected are well taken care of as we make this change.

UPDATE ENDS

Harmonix - the developer that brought us the ambitious play-along, Rock Band - is to lay off 37 staff and say farewell to CEO Alex Rigopulos.

Taking over from Rigopulos is the company's head of publishing and business operations, Steve Janiak. This comes after the company managed to get its Amplitude PS2 music title reboot kickstarted with $775,000 in crowdfunding. A statement to the press has been released and reads:

“Harmonix is in the process of restructuring our organization to bring it into alignment with our current and future product development plans.

“Unfortunately, this means making the difficult decision to reduce the number of full-time staff. We sincerely appreciate the work of each and every one of these employees. Harmonix is working to ensure that those affected are well taken care of as we make this change.”
