Oh dear Viacom... the media organisation went to legal war with Rock Band developer Harmonix for $131,000,000 in 2011. Now it's going to have to pay the game maker $300,000,000.Viacom had said that it wanted to query the bonuses due to Harmonix - even going so far as to accuse the developer of being "a
negative contributor" to the parent company's earnings. A Delaware judge doesn't see it that way.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter:
"On Tuesday, a Delaware Supreme Court affirmed what both an arbitrator and a Delaware Circuit Judge had previously said -- that Viacom owes $299 million (plus interest) in "earn-outs" to the individuals who once controlled Harmonix, the video game company that produced the
Rock Band and
Guitar Hero games."
Ouch. It also points out that, "Harmonix shareholders were represented by the law firm of Sidley Austin, which counts the total legal victory -- including a settled dispute over the 2007 earn-outs -- to be $533 million."
OUCH!
