Microsoft Wanted a Disc-Free Xbox One
After Microsoft showed off its Xbox One at E3 last year, the company considered scrapping the optical disc drive in the console entirely.

Phil Spencer, boss at Microsoft Studios said "Obviously, after the announcement and E3, there was some feedback about what people wanted to change." He continued:

"There was a real discussion about whether we should have an optical disc drive in Xbox One or if we could get away with a purely disc-less console, but when you start looking at bandwidth and game size, it does create issues."

Microsoft ultimately added the Blu-ray drive to give "the people an easy way to install a lot of content. From some of those original thoughts, you saw a lot of us really focusing on the digital ecosystem you see on other devices - thinking of and building around that."

What are your thoughts on it? Is disc-less the way forward? Do you like having a disc collection? Let us know, we're interested, honest!

I prefer my physical copies, I have no problem buying digital if I have to, but I worry about when the services go down I'll have spent all that money with nothing to show for it.

Physical media will always have a place in my heart and the day that everything goes completely digital will be the day a little part of me dies. I love collecting my PS4 and Blu-ray discs. If I really enjoy something I just buy it on blu-ray. I can buy whatever game I want and if I dont like it I can take it to the second hand shop and trade it for something that I do want.
