Microsoft has apparently slammed a nail into the coffin containing its popular appeal among gamers with the news that in the lead-up to the biggest buying season of the year, it's raising the price of digital downloads games for Xbox One.
In a move that could make Don Mattrick giggle in childish glee and nod in agreement with its apparently cock-about-face timing digitally downloaded titles including the likes of Forza 5
will go up by a fiver from £44.99 to £49.99 to cover the cost of packaging... no, wait. That's not why. Let's see what a Microsoft spokesperson had to say:
"Then he growled, with his Grinch fingers nervously drumming,
"I MUST find some way to stop Christmas from coming!"
For Tomorrow, he knew, all the Who girls and boys,
Would wake bright and early. They'd rush for their toys!
And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the Noise!
Noise! Noise! Noise!
That's one thing he hated! The NOISE!
NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!" *
No, that's not right either. Here's the real thing via MCV
"Pricing for select digital content in some markets has changed since launch. Digital content pricing is subject to change and we may occasionally offer various deals or promotions. Ultimately pricing and promotions will vary by region.”
Yup: "We have to do this in order to keep what remains of bricks'n'mortar retail happy as we try to sell more Xbox Ones" although we said that, Microsoft didn't.
