Fears that the closure of Zipper Interactive spelled doom for the SOCOM franchise have been put to rest by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios.Asked by the US
Official PlayStation Magazine whether Zipper's closure meant the end of the
SOCOM franchise, Yoshida replied, “It’s not done. We never retire any franchise”.
SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive was confirmed closed earlier in the year as part of what Sony called, "a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS".
Yoshida pointed to the
revival of the long dormant
Sly Cooper series and added, “it’s sometimes good to have a fresh look at the franchises we have”.
There will have been seven years without a new
Sly Cooper game by the time
Thieves in Time launches. Make of that what you will.
Still, it appears there's more
SOCOM somewhere in our future.
