Summary

SOCOM returns to the PlayStation with full single-player and hectic multiplayer campaigns fit to test the most hardened of gaming FPS fans.

The action is set in South East Asia in a scenario where a revolutionary army has seized control of a country bordering one of the world’s most vital waterways. Not only does this threaten the inhabitants of the country, it also poses a huge security threat to the entire economy of the world.

In the single-player campaign, the gamer takes the role of an Ops Com, that’s a NATO Operations Commander in control of an elite five-man squad of hardcore specialist troops. The player must fight their way – and lead their squad through foetid jungles, sniper-controlled city streets and crumbling urban ruins not only to defeat the revolutionaries but also to uncover their ultimate plans to dominate both the country and the world.

Of course, the fact that the player is outnumbered should not stop them winning through using a vast arsenal of the very latest weaponry and military tech. They will, however, need to use more than brute force. Stealth, speed and tactical thinking are all required in this race against both the enemy and time itself. With only six days to complete the mission all the gamer’s resources are called upon.

Once battle and tac’ skills are learned and optimised in the single-player it’s time to go online and get involved in scenarios featuring up to 32 players featuring several Spec Ops forces.

The game has also been optimised for use with the PlayStation Move controller and its Navigation Controller – either as standalone devices or mounted in the PlayStation sharpshooter for even greater ease of load, fire and accuracy.
