PlayStation 2 consumes two third of American market as Microsoft shamefully claim victory in console sales war
In the last two weeks, PlayStation 2 consoles have sold more than any other gaming platform, easily ahead of GameCube and Xbox. Sony has thus far shifted an impressive 1.4 million units of the PlayStation 2 in Q4 of this year.

Microsoft is surprisingly claiming a victory over its console rival in terms of sales, even though the company has sold far fewer Xbox units. “We're really happy with the sales so far," James Bernard, Xbox Product Manager for Microsoft, declared. "When you compare our first few weeks to Sony's first few weeks with the PlayStation 2 last year, we're way ahead.”

Slightly off the point really, don’t you think? SCEA only managed to ready 300,000 consoles at launch, all of which sold within about 17 seconds of the machine going on sale. Xbox sales were strong but the machine did not sell-out.

Sony remained unfazed by its new competition. "Clearly, data for the first month of the holiday sales season indicates that the entire PlayStation family of products will soundly outsell all competitors combined, despite the heralded introduction of new game consoles during this important month," said Jack Tretton, Senior Vice President for Sony Computer Entertainment of America.
