Schafer: Kickstarter Success Doesn't Worry Publishers
So, you think Double Fine's Kickstarter success will lead to publishers the world over changing the way they think about indie projects? Don't hold your breath, says studio head Tim Schafer, who notes that while the crowd-sourcing initiative was wildly successful, publishers aren't concerned in the slightest.

"Their response has always been, Oh that’s great – congratulations on that. Now let’s talk about games like we always have," Schafer said in a recent interview.

"I don’t think any publishers are quaking in their boots – they’re like, “Oh, two million dollars, that’s cute! That’s the marketing budget for the little game I’m working on.” It’s not a big amount of money for them. It’s a big amount of money for us though."

Schafer added that the success of the Kickstarter project - which has raised $2.25 million from 70,000 backers - won't change the developer's professional approach to making games. "We’re still out pitching our other games. This is just one of our projects. We have four teams here. Those other teams are still out there pitching new games to publishers."

will Double Fine get fat and lazy and greedy now that they are rich is the question. I bet its new car/house/boat/wife time for Tim and the crew
