Could an MMO based on the Mass Effect universe be on the cards? According to BioWare it's certainly a possibility. With Star Wars: The Old Republic nearly done and in gamers' hands, we wouldn't want the coders sitting on their hands, would we?According to BioWare's Dr. Greg Zeschuk,
MEMMO (as we're now calling it) is something it's considering. "It's one of the nice things about having these properties in our back pocket," he says "If we want to use something we own as a source for a game, it's easy to do. So yeah, you never know. We've got this giant product to launch, but once that's done we'll consider next steps."
Even the fact that it's thinking about it will set many gamers hearts a-flutter. Of course the third release in the
Mass Effect series is still due to hit next year which will invariably be huge, but a sprawling online ME universe for you and thousands of other to explore? Insane.
By taking the right tack,
MEMMO (catchy, hey?) could well be utterly immense – and for all their talk of possibility, you just know that it'll happen eventually. The appeal of cold hard cash is just far too high and by using their own IP as a back story every penny will go to BioWare rather than sharing with a company like LucasArts. The countdown begins here.
