The Irish economy may well be in the toilet, but BioWare and EA are here to save the day! A bit, anyway. The company has announced the opening of its first ever customer service facility outside North America to help deal with the launch of the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO, creating two hundred much needed jobs in Galway.

Ireland is famous for it's technological prowess and experienced a huge tech boom in recent years. However, the industry has now pretty much collapsed, meaning that thousands have left the country in search of work. Those left behind have been scrabbling for what they can get and while this is only a couple of hundred jobs... well, it's a couple of hundred jobs. That's a lot better than nothing.

Even the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, waded in. "The Programme for Government highlights the digital game industry as a particular priority area for growth and the presence here of EA, one of the world's leading interactive games companies, will help enhance our status as a centre for the digital media sector." We're not sure if Enda has pre-ordered The Old Republic yet, but we're sure he'll be there on launch night.
